Weeds, A Benefit To The Garden?

Weeds, weeds, weeds! The bane of the gardener's life. They choke out precious seedlings and hog the vital nutrients that our veggies, fruits and flowers need to thrive. We spend hours pulling, digging and spraying trying to rid our beds of this unwanted plant life.
Some weeds are edible, such as dandelion and plaintain, but there is another side to weeds that is actually a benefit to our gardens and our environment.

I'm talking about flowers. Many weeds flower in early spring and late summer, times of the year when nectar is badly needed by bees.

And healthy bee populations are necessary for our gardens to grow and thrive.
So I say, leave a few weeds in the garden, the pollinators will thank you. And, in my opinion, those flowers are quite pretty .
