What's Growing on Hen and Drake Farm - Week 39

I need to take more pleasure in the loveliness of the Autumn garden.
It is effortless to find beauty in the Spring garden, with new life bursting from every bed and the scent of growth in the air. Similarly, the Summer garden is redolent with the aroma of ripening fruit and the glory of harvest.
The Autumn garden, in contrast, is gloomy. Death and decay seem to be everywhere, along with futile hope for a little more warmth and light. But there is beauty, and life, in the Autumn garden. It is just more subtle, hidden, ethereal.

Here is the garden this week

Dew drops line the petals of Summer's last rose

Hardy kiwi vine glows golden in the early morning sunshine

Unwanted potatoes in an unwelcoming environment prove that life will find a way

Winter crops of carrot and parsnip flourish in the cooler weather of early Autumn

Seeds laid out to dry. Cosmic Purple carrot, Rainbow quinoa and Golden Pascal celery

Fat Rio Zape bean pods hint at the beauty of the beans contained within

Blueberry leaves add spots of fiery color to the garden

Dying melon vines reveal a wealth of fruit hidden beneath

The overnight work of a spider is revealed in the dewy morning

Likely one of the last of the cocozelle squash this year. It was grilled and thouroughly enjoyed by all

Very ripe tomatoes were made into mozzarella ricotta bruschetta

A few of the multicolored corn cobs

Weekly harvest total

3 pounds 7 ounces zucchini
4 pounds 6 ounces tomatillos
9 pounds 8 ounces melons
7 ounces beans
9 ounces eggplant
9 ounces corn

Yearly total

393 pounds 2 ounces
