What's Growing on Hen and Drake Farm - Week 32
I came home from camping this week to lots of things ready for harvest. When you work in your garden every day you don't see the subtle changes so much, but, return from a vacation and new growth is instantly noticeable
Here is the garden this week
There were several pounds of tomatillos so I canned a batch of salsa
The tomatoes and summer squash went into a yummy veggie casserole
The shallots were done curing and have now been strung up. About half of the largest ones will be planted in the spring
Bee resting on a green tomato
Finally getting some eggplant
Which went into eggplant, tomato and fresh mozzarella fans
This is what happens when you leave chickens in the garden unsupervised.
No biggie though, just an excuse to make fried green tomatoes
This volunteer tomato is small, but fruiting. I think it is a Sweet Aperitif, since that is what I planted there last year
Lady Godiva squash starting to ripen
Mexican Torch sunflower
Carolina Reaper. Check out that stinger! This one is gonna hurt!
My ginger plant has sprouted!
Rose tomatoes growing in a 5 gallon bucket on my deck
Early Hanover and Silver Line melons
Mammoth Russian sunflower
And this giant one that I'm not sure of the variety, probably Black Russian
